This week at the pool!

Good morning Hammerheads!

We hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! Here is a little update on what's happening at practice.

Last week swimmers worked on butterfly! You may have heard your swimmer or coaches use the word "moskin" and thought "what's that!?" Moskin refers to moving through the water adulating your whole body, specifically the core. Once swimmers are able to do a strong moskin, it becomes easier for them to get their arms around during butterfly. Ask your swimmer if they know what moskin is!

This week we are diving into Breaststroke. We like to start breaststroke by having swimmers work on their kick on their backs. This allows them to find some balance and focus on the movement of the kick without having to think about how to take a breath. (We know it may look crazy, but trust the process!) Once we get the feet down we will add in the pull and how to take a breath. FUN FACT! you do not have to take a breath every pull in breaststroke, but your head must break the surface every pull. So if you see your swimmer breathing every few pulls in breaststroke, no worries, we told them to do that as long as their head is breaking the surface of the water every pull.

A few reminders and updates!

-JUNE PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGE! morning practices have been pushed back and  will begin 6/12. We will continue with our regular afternoon practice schedule through 6/11, FRIDAY 6/12 will be our first morning practice. Please see website for your child's morning practice time.

-MEET & VOLUNTEER SIGN UP please make sure you have RSVPd yes OR no to all swim meets, we will begin looking at who will swim what events for meets and need to see who is available and who is now. We also cannot put on our swim meets without our amazing parent volunteers, please take a moment to sign up for any open volunteer positions so that we can make sure meets run smoothly!

-JUDGE TRAINING THIS SUNDAY! want an amazing pool side volunteer position where you get a front row see to your child's swims!? Join the judge training this Sunday 5/31 at 4pm at the Memorial West Pool (700 N. Kirkwood Rd.) Then sign up to be a judge at the swim meets!

-PARKING notifications about street parking near the pool have gone out, but wanted to send another friendly reminder that towing happens fast infront of the rec center next to the pool. Please double check parking signs on 12th Street and know just because someone else parked there does not mean it is a legal parking space.

See you at the pool!
