    Swim Team: Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my swimmer have to be to join the team?

Children ages 5 – 18 as of May 1 who can swim across the pool without assistance (25 yards) in 1:00 minute or less are encouraged to sign up. This is our league competition cutoff time. Coaches are not in the water during practice. Swim team is not a learn-to-swim program, but we'd be happy to recommend some in the area.

How many practices does my swimmer need to attend each week?

Our coaches do take practice attendance into account when creating meet entries. We recommend your swimmer make as many practices a week as possible to see the most improvement throughout the season.

Can my swimmer attend a different practice time if they're unable to attend their age group practice?

No. Swimmers must swim in their age group practice.

    How much are registration fees?

Registration Fees are $200 for the first swimmer plus $150 for each additional swimmer.

Which League will the Heights Hammerheads be in?

We will compete in the Memorial Spring Branch Swim Conference (MSBSC).

When and where are the Swim Meets?

Swim meets are on Monday and/or Thursday evenings in June. Swimmer warm-ups begin as early as 4:15 pm with meets starting at 5:00 pm.

What events will my child swim at swim meets?

Our league restricts the number of entries per event. Because we have such a large team, every swimmer is guaranteed to swim 2 events at every meet - at least one individual event and one relay.

Are parents required to volunteer at Swim Meets?

Yes. All families are required to volunteer a minimum of 8 points during the season. In order to run an efficient and fluid swim meet, we will need all hands on deck. This applies to both home and away swim meets. It takes a village!

Does my child have to have swim team experience?

Swimmers must be able to swim both a 25yd lap in 1:00 minute or less. Swim team is not a learn-to-swim program, but we are happy to recommend some if needed! We recommend you sign your child (children) up for swim lessons prior to the start of swim team so that they are confident in the water at the start of the season.

What does my swimmer need for practice?

Please review our Practice 101 page - it has great information on Hammerhead practice policies and expectations!

Will there be a team swim suit?

Yes! Swim team suits and other swimming accessories will be available for purchase through Texas Swim Shops.

What is the inclement weather policy?

Our coaches will follow the American Red Cross guidelines for inclement weather. In the event of a thunderstorm or impending storms, the coaches will decide to delay or cancel practice. Currently, we plan to alert parents about delayed or cancelled practices through email via our website.
