This Week at the Pool!
Hi Hammerheads!
What a great first two weeks of practice, even with some weather interruptions! If you stayed on deck and watched practice, you may have noticed, we started off working on the details. We worked on moving the water with our hands and feet efficiently. We worked on clean fast finishes and fast starts. We worked in when to touch with 2 hands and how to finish on our backs. Swimmers showed up to practice dressed and ready to work, so thank you parents for getting them there ready to go!!
In the coming weeks we will be working on all 4 strokes, proper hand, feet and body movement and how to move more water more efficiently to get through the water faster in each stroke. We know that it is that busy end of year time and schedules are packed, but it is definitely important for your swimmer to make it to as many practices as possible to be able to learn the full progression of each stroke with the team. Please feel free to reach out to coaches Layne or Laura, in-between practices, if you have questions about practices or your child's progress.
SAFETY CORNER!
We want parents to be aware of the coaching and guarding staffs Emergency Action Plans (EAP) in case of medical or weather emergencies.
WEATHER EMERGENCIES
We clear the pool if there is lightning 8 miles or closer, or if the rain is coming down too hard for coaches and guards to clearly see the bottom of the pool. We will also clear the pool and/or cancel practice if there is a tornado warning in the area during practice times (we all remember that one time the tornado hit as we were leaving practice!!) We do ask that you stay near by during practice if the weather is looking questionable, we will send out alerts on Swimtopia anytime we need to clear the pool for a weather emergency. We also try to make announcements 30 minutes prior to practice to let you know if we need to cancel. As yall know, sometimes Houston weather changes quickly and we don't have much notice!
MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
All of our coaches have lifeguard training, so we have 4-6 trained lifeguards on the pool deck during any given practice. Additionally, coaches Laura and Layne have EMT training, so your swimmers are in super safe hands! Should we have a medical emergency in the pool or on the pool deck, we will clear the pool and the pool deck, and we will ask parents to help us gather the kids outside the front gate and make sure everyone gets paired with their adult. 911 will be notified and coaching and guarding staffs will provide first response services until EMS arrives. If a medical emergency happens outside of the pool gates, please CALL 911 immediately, and have someone grab a coach or lifeguard to come help give care until EMS arrives. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
Reminders for this week!
-Picture Day is Wednesday at 5pm! ONLY 11 and up swimmers will have practice. 11 and up will swim 6:30p-7:15pm. 10 and under will only have pictures, NO PRACTICE.
-Swim Meets are open in Swimtopia to RSVP swimmers. Please go in and RSVP yes OR no so that coaches know who is available to compete when they begin building meets.
-Please keep and eye on all signs when parking for practice. There is no street parking directly infront of the community center but it is allowed on the street closer to the school! We would hate for anyone to be ticketed or towed!
Let's have a great week, see you at the pool!!
GO HAMMERHEADS!!
